Is GetSweaty safe for my kids?
GetSweaty offers a healthy mixture of aerobic, weight and resistance training specially designed for kids from 8-14. (Parents and older siblings can use it as well!) We focus on all the important aspects of physical fitness, including agility, flexibility, balance and coordination.
All kids should be involved in this type of physical activity for their general health and well-being. Some of GetSweaty’s exercises involve light weights. This is perfectly acceptable and beneficial. Just be sure your child is using very light weights and using good form as outlined in our videos.
Remind your child that if he or she cannot finish the exercises in the GetSweaty videos not to get discouraged. Have them stop, take a rest and continue on. If your child gets faint or dizzy, have them stop immediately. Keeping hydrated is very important so your child should drink water before, during and after any type of workout or play.
Finally, we talk a lot at GetSweaty about remembering to breathe. Being conscious of your breathing while exercising is very important for kids and adults. It helps bring oxygen to your muscles for maximum results and helps you push a little further. Don’t forget to breathe!
Remember that physical activity, combined with nutritious food and lots of rest is a great recipe for the good health of your entire family.
How much exercise should my child get each week?
Kids need about 60 minutes of physical activity everyday but this doesn’t need to happen all at once. Several short 10-minute periods of activity throughout the day are just as good. If your children are not used to being active, encourage them to start slowly and build up to 60 minutes per day.
